Global Sustainable Certification Services Ltd. (GSCS) has been selected as service provider for ESQ (Environmental, Social & Quality) assessment under the project EC4J (Export Competitiveness for Jobs).
EC4J (Export Competitiveness for Jobs) project is a six year project. This six-year project is aimed to support Government of Bangladesh’s export diversification targets. The project is designed to enhance growth and competitiveness of selected sectors beyond Ready-Made Garments (RMG), and to create more and better job opportunities. The project will focus on four priority sectors in which Bangladesh has a demonstrated comparative advantage, or sectors that provide essential inputs in export-oriented manufacturing value chains. These sectors are: (i) Leather and Leather Goods;(ii) Footwear; (iii) Light Engineering;and(iv) Plastics. The project objective is to contribute to export diversification and more and better jobs in targeted sectors.
One of the key highlights of this project is Export Readiness Fund (ERF) – matching grant a challenge fund to directly assist firms with environmental, social and quality (ESQ) assessments, and incentives to implement improvements. GSCS has been selected as service provider for ESQ assessment to these sectors.
The Export Readiness Fund (ERF) is a $10 million matching grant program which will provide grant-based incentives to firms to support Bangladeshi exports. ERF grants will assist firms to identify and address Environmental, Social and Quality (ESQ) compliance gaps, upgrade products and production process and support firms to meet trade standards. This will be done in order to comply with the laws and regulations of major export markets and requirements of multinational brands. The ERF was launched on 5 January 2020 and the Fund will cover a period of three years.
